Outdoor lighting is getting more sophisticated
in pace with outdoor living. More outdoor lighting
consumers are enjoying their leisure hours outside
and are looking to improve the experience with
better lighting.
Blinding floodlights, glaring lanterns and under-illuminating
candles aren't cutting it anymore, as people increasingly
have come to appreciate just how outdoor lighting
can contribute to an enjoyable outdoor lighting
environment. Outdoor decor is gaining, with tableware
an area that has received a boost from deck dining.
Grills have become bigger, more expensive and
fashionable: not the transfer of the stainless
steel trend from the kitchen to the deck, David
Creglia, vp of sales for Globe Electric, noted,
adding, "Backyard decor is something people
pay more attention to every year." Globe
Electric updates the color selection available
in its outdoor lighting line to keep pace. Innovation
is helping to entice demand. Sylvania, for instance,
has introduced a "bugless" florescent
outdoor light designed to be less attractive to
little party crashers. Lava is introducing a signature
rechargeable accent lamp that lends a little color
to outdoor evenings.
GE has created a section specifically dedicated
to outdoor lighting in its planogram, bringing
still more attention to the segment. The new outdoor
lighting for GE is part of a major reorganization
of its light bulb line that includes the roll
out of the Edison brand of halogen lighting, the
introduction of new graphic packaging and the
launch of a new display strategy.
