Leviton's Lighting Control Division has introduced
a revolutionary new line of lighting control products
that promises to set a new industry standard for
product engineering, performance and design. For
every major type of residential and commercial
dimming and fan speed control product on the market
today, the new family of products provides a dramatically
reengineered version of the traditional-style
product and offers an unmatched combination of
functionality and aesthetic appeal. According
to Mark Hollcraft, Marketing Manager for Leviton's
Lighting Control Division, "We anticipate
that the success of the new lighting controls
line will place Leviton Lighting Control products
at the top of the installer's, specifier's and
end-user's lists for innovative, top-quality,
aesthetically-designed lighting control products
for the new millennium."
The lighting controls line includes 14 products
which run the gamut of dimming and fan speed control
devices, from architectural and traditional rotary-style
products; to slide and toggle products; to touch
and scene control products. " If you were
buying a new car in 1999, you wouldn't want one
designed with 1979 technology. Similarly, why
not buy lighting controls that incorporate the
latest technology instead of technology that's
more than twenty years old?" Hollcraft adds.
any of the new products feature Leviton's distinctive
Decora designer-styling. A hallmark of the Leviton
name, Decora products feature a contemporary "Universal
Design" that makes them easy to operate by
people of all ages and abilities. Many of the
products also offer convenient pre-set features
that permit brightness levels to return to the
last brightness level selected, before lighting
has been switched OFF. All devices offer multi-location
control features, permitting control from more
than a single access point.
Two striking new innovations of several of the
products are their Color Change Kits and ability
to serve as both single-pole and 3-way/multi-location
devices. Exclusive to the new line, Leviton's
unique Color Change Kits permit device color change-overs
to be made quickly and easily when different color
devices are needed to coordinate with new interior
color schemes. Rather than having to install a
new-color device, the existing device face easily
snaps out and (more) the new face snaps in and
is covered by a matching wallplate. Many of the
lighting controls new products also offer single-pole
and 3-way/multi-location wiring options in the
same device. This means that the same device can
be used in both a single-pole and 3-way/multi-location
installation when used with either a three-way
switch or remote, depending on the particular
device.
The company's new Architectural Specification
Multi-Location Dimmers include the Monet ™,
Renoir™ and Van Gogh™ products. Designed
for commercial lighting control applications,
these products are also ideal for many high-end
residential lighting needs such as in home theaters,
dining rooms and home offices. Monet, the flagship
of the line, provides digital, preset slide-dimming
features, single-pole and 3-way functionality
in the same device, and scene lighting control
capabilities. With Monet's scene lighting control
features, up to six programmable lighting scenes
can be selected from a single access point and
any scene can be activated from a remote location.
Its low-profile, architectural fin design provides
a flush-to-the-wall fit. The cover plate with
matt finish and non-shadow reflecting features
makes it ideal for any environment where a subtle
design plays a critical role, such as in museums
and galleries. Its gentle Fade-to-ON, Fade-to-OFF
provides maximum user comfort and extended bulb
life. Monet's soft green indicator light serves
as a switch locator in darkened areas. Renoir
uses a smooth-action linear slide control to provide
preset full-range dimming. Its separate Decora-style
rocker permits ON/OFF switching that doesn't disturb
preset brightness levels. The Van Gogh rotary
control is available in both single-pole Turn
ON/OFF and 3-way Push ON/OFF versions.
Scene Selector™, Scene Maker™ and
Mural™ comprise the new Scene Multi-Location
products in the line. Scene Selector's scene lighting
capabilities allow up to four distinct lighting
scenes to be programmed to match mood and task
requirements. With Scene Selector elaborate lighting
designs can be programmed in a single coordinated
installation. For example, one lighting load in
a room can be turned ON at full brightness, a
second, at half brightness, and a third at one-quarter
brightness. Scene Maker, part of the Decora Home
Controls (DHC) line of home automation products,
controls high-wattage loads (up to 1000W) in DHC-equipped
homes. The device offers local and remote dimming
control for one or more lighting loads. It features
Leviton's Intellisense™ advanced circuitry
for optimum performance reliability even in situations
where electrical "noise" exists on the
power line. Scene Maker also (more) provides scene
lighting control features when used in conjunction
with Leviton's new DHC Touch Screen Programmer
(Cat. No. 26711) and Wall-Mounted Scene Controllers
(Cat. Nos.16400/16450-S and 16400/16450-SD). Mural
Decora rocker style controls permit full-function
lighting control from any number of locations.
Unlike conventional dimming devices, its digital
dimming capabilities allow both switching and
full-range dimming from both the dimmer and any
number of remote devices to which it is wired.
Mural affords gentle touch ON/Off Decora rocker
action in addition to rocker dimming features.
LED's alongside the rocker indicate selected brightness
levels. Mural Scene Capable controls provide up
to six programmable lighting scenes. Mural L/S
(Level Set) controls feature Decora rocker-action
preset switching. Arrow-shaped rocker for Dim/Bright
levels is built-into the Mural rocker switch.
The Touch Multi-Location product line consists
of True Touch™, Touchpoint™ and Toggletouch™.
TrueTouch features a digital design which eliminates
moving parts. Dimming and ON/OFF switching are
achieved by gently touching the touch-sensitive
panel. By tapping it, the lights go ON; by touching
and holding it, full-range dimming is achieved.
By tapping it again, lights go OFF. Lights switch
ON at the exact brightness level last set. True
Touch permits ON/OFF and FADE ON, FADE OFF dimming
control from all stations when used with remote
units. The digitally-engineered Touch Point features
Leviton touch-pad technology. With this innovation,
wherever the user's finger is placed along the
touch pad, the device will correspondingly cause
light levels to dim or brighten to that level.
Touch Point provides full-range FADE ON FADE OFF
dimming. ToggleTouch is the company's striking
new version of the traditional toggle switch seen
throughout today's homes. The device features
two touch pads alongside the ON/OFF toggle. By
touching the top pad, lights will brighten; by
touching the bottom pad, they will dim. ToggleTouch
affords soft ON operation. A green LED (on illuminated
models) is located between the two touch pads
to serve as a locator switch in darkened areas.
The device is gangable with other toggle switches
and provides leads for quick installation.
The Traditional Multi-Location products consist
of Illumatech™, Sureslide™ and Trimatron™.
Illumatech provides a fluid-action, flush-fit
slide mechanism that is easy to operate. It is
available in preset and non-preset versions. Preset
versions feature a Universal (more)
Design push-ON/push-OFF preset switch that doesn't
require a small finger movement to operate. Locater
LED illuminates when lights are OFF. SureSlide
is a full-range slide dimmer with a compact design,
positive ON/OFF switching, and a smooth-operating
slide controller. It is available in single-pole
non-preset and single-pole and 3-way preset versions,
including illuminated models. Trimatron provides
deluxe Push-ON/Push-OFF full-range dimming. It
fits standard toggle wallplates and provides 3-way
control when used with a 3-way switch.
