Wrought iron has been used as a decorative element
for many centuries. Wrought iron lamps originally
began in Europe then were adopted into American
culture in the late 1800s. Since that time their
popularity has remained strong.
Wrought iron lamps can add a sense of style to
any type of modern home interior from contemporary
to country. There is something about the feel
and look of a wrought iron floor lamp or table
lamp. It seem to add a medieval feel that can't
be captured with any other steel decor. Quality
craftsmanship is another reason why this style
has been popular for centuries. Traditions for
this craft have been passed down generation to
generation.
Personally I have a black wrought iron floor
lamp in my living room that I adore. My home is
a contemporary home but even still the floor lamp
flows with the rest of my homes interior design
elements. I also have 2 wrought iron table lamps
on my end tables that I would not sell for the
world. Classic pieces of steel art that will forever
add a sense of style to any room in your home.
I am considering adding to my collection of this
fine classic steel craftsmanship by installing
a wrought iron wall lamp at the exterior front
entrance of my home. It might surprise you to
find contemporary homes linking to the past using
cold black steel, but I find that the simplicity
of iron as a material allows it to blend nicely
with modern style homes.
For instance a contemporary kitchen with stainless
steel surfaces is complemented by iron door handles
that are sleek and simple in design, just as a
contemporary bathroom benefits from towel bars
that are clean, simple, and honestly designed
from the natural material of iron. In any case
this is a long tradition that still flourishes
in homes across America and the rest of the world.
